Summit NJ Mayor Jordan Glatt announced at the Summit Downtown Inc. Board of Trusties meeting that the Springfield Ave Bridge will be open Friday June 27at 4 pm. A ceremony is planned for July 1 at 6 pm.

Susan G Komen “Race for The Cure” will take place Sunday, May 4th at Essex County Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ. This year celebrates the 25th Anniversary of “The Race for The Cure”. Just about everyone knows someone who has had or died of breast cancer. Laura Posada, wife of four-time World Champion Yankee catcher Jorge will be the guest speaker at this years “Healthy Kids Day” on April 12th from 2-4pm at the Berkeley Heights YMCA. This event which is being organized and promoted by the Junior League of Summit is free of charge and is open to parents and children of all ages. The purpose of the event is to educate both children and parents on the importance of exercise and healthy eating. Children and Parents will enjoy the planned games and activities designed to promote nutritional awareness and healthy eating. Money 101 published by CNNMoney.com is ”An easy to follow guide to help gain control of your finances”. The lessons in Money 101 start with “Setting Priorities”, “Making a Budget”, “Investing”,” Buying a Home”, “Planning for Retirement” and more. I found most of the information to be very helpful , but as a real estate professional I had particular interest in Lesson #8, “Buying a Home”. Money 101 begins with a few “Top Things to Know” like when to buy, cleaning up your credit, getting pre approved, and finding a real estate professional. If you are looking to buy or sell a home there are definitely things you should know and Money101 is a great place to start. Also included in the post, “Are you ready to own?” which discusses owning vs renting, “Getting the Right Money” emphasizing credit, “Picking a Team” that is selecting a realtor, “The Hunt” finding a home and “Closing the Deal”. If you are selling your home, there are also plenty of selling tips for you as well. This annual event features gourmet specialties from Summit’s finest restaurants and caterers. Proceeds from the event go the the Summit Historical Society. The National Association of Realtors 3rd Quarter New Jersey Home Sales Report for 2007 analyzes and compares home sales by county, number of bedrooms, resale activity, affordability, and year. This report illustrates NJ Real Estate market conditions by both county and region and shows that some areas are much stronger then others. For example, Union County compared to the same period in 2006, home sales prices actually rose by 3.5% while Monmouth and Ocean counties declined by 31.77%. North Jersey had the highest median sales price at $474, 900, while South Jersey homes sales averaged $243,900. The NJ State median sales price was $356,700. For the month of January 2008 there were a total of 14 properties sold with an average days on the market of 32 and an average sale price of $847,714.
